Activities of the Dayton Section
The Dayton Section of the American Chemical Society, as a non-profit membership association, in order to foster and promote improved understanding of chemistry as well as to enhance networking and recognition of its members, organizes a range of activities.
Our section engages high school and university students in chemistry through a number of different activities:
We also support the work of the student chapters at local universities and colleges; please contact the Chair of the Younger Chemists Committee, for assistance with this.
K-12 and Community Outreach
The Dayton Section is strongly committed to community outreach by providing and supporting opportunities for STEM engagement - particularly chemistry-oriented engagement - through direct organization, participation, and sponsorship of different events.
In addition, the section is willing to provide support, particularly through help in recruiting subject-matter experts, for STEM outreach activities (such as science fairs) by schools and other organizations. Those seeking such help should contact the Section Chair.
The section provides many opportunities for networking among all chemists, from the most senior to undergraduate students. Typical events include:
- An annual picnic held in the fall. This year, we will participate in GO-CHEM on September 17th - an all-Ohio networking event for chemists.
- The Membership Meeting, where we celebrate the service of the 50-year and 60-year members of the ACS in our section as well as the work of outgoing Executive Committee members.
In addition, various talks and other events are organized, many in conjunction with other sections in the region such as the Cincinnati section and the Columbus section. These will be announced on the news page.
